Footpath problems, diversions and planning applications

Footpaths Officer’s Report As Footpaths Secretary of Crook and Weardale Ramblers Group my mission is to support and enable The Ramblers Organisation mission: Our mission The Ramblers is a charity whose goal is to protect the ability of people to enjoy the sense of freedom and benefits that come from being outdoors on foot. We’re an association of people and groups who come together to both enjoy walking and other outdoor pursuits and also to ensure that we protect and expand the infrastructure and places people go walking. The public rights of way and footpaths in Weardale enable us to walk freely through our towns and countryside and so it is essential that we all ensure that we “protect and expand the infrastructure and places people go walking”. Since being elected Footpaths Officer I have been working to understand what a role description of this office may include. Initially, I have concentrated my efforts upon establishing links with both the influencers and enablers necessary to deliver our mission, eg. Durham County Council, Groundwork NE & Cumbria, Weardale Area Action Partnership, etc. and I continue to broaden and consolidate my network. Ramblers members are welcome to contact me with any issues regarding the footpaths in our groups designated area. This is essentially the old Wear Valley District Council area. Members of the Crook and Weardale Ramblers, who have given their permission, shall be sent updates of my progress and other matters which may concern us via emails from the Crook and Weardale Ramblers. Please contact me (contact details below) if you did not give your permission in your Ramblers membership profile to receive emails from the Ramblers but do wish to receive updates from Crook and Weardale Ramblers via email.
